Who we are

This site is a joint project of my son and me, his mom. My son is 31 years old and has very significant developmental disabilities. His life goal is being at home as little as possible — he likes to be out and about, visiting friends, going to dances, attending cultural events and sports events, and taking in a wide variety of other opportunities, like parks, fairs, and festivals. For years I have combed the internet for suitable things to do and this website is intended to share the events we find with other people.

Our basic parameters are just that the events must be relatively inexpensive, which we have defined as $10 or less per person, and must be intended for adults. There are a number of other sites that primarily list activities intended for young children, some of which are listed in our Resource Library.

Our focus is Oakland County, but we also include some activities in Detroit and on nearby college campuses, including Wayne State University, Eastern Michigan University, and the University of Michigan. We also follow Oakland County colleges including Oakland County Community College (all campuses), Rochester College, and Oakland University. Very occasionally we also list events located in neighboring counties, usually close to the Oakland County line.

Because our own preference is for cultural events like concerts, dance, and musical theater, and for spectator sports, our events calendar is heavy on those items. We go very light on visual arts because of my son’s vision impairments and on very “talky” events like plays and poetry slams. We welcome visitors to contribute information on events we don’t cover or haven’t covered via our contact form or our blog.
