Events Included on the Calendar

Our basic parameters are just that the events must be relatively inexpensive, which we have defined as $10 or less per person, and must be intended for adults. There are a number of other sites that list activities primarily intended for young children and the ones we think are best are listed in our Resource Library.

Some venues are too expensive for inclusion of separate events, but have annual memberships that may make the venue affordable if you would go there several times in a given year. An obvious example is the Detroit Zoo, which offers weekly summer concerts that are free for members. A Detroit Zoo membership costs $73 and a membership that allows you to bring one guest is $105. Memberships include parking, which is otherwise $8 per vehicle. A single day’s admission for an adult is $19. We have a Zoo membership and go there many times every year, so each visit is under $10. Other venues with useful memberships include many area museums and Greenfield Village in Dearborn. We include information about many of them in our Resource Library.

Our focus is Oakland County, but we also include some activities in Detroit and on nearby college campuses, including Wayne State University, Eastern Michigan University, and the University of Michigan. We also follow Oakland County colleges including Oakland County Community College (all campuses), Rochester College, and Oakland University.
